SUMMARY:Colburn House Workday
DESCRIPTION:August 26 volunteer work day. Members and non-members are invited. The Colburn House is a Maine Historic Site and all volunteers will need to sign a State of Maine Release Form before starting work. Forms will be available onsite.\n\nSome of the projects include:Preparing gravel pads for new steps for the barn and carriage houseBuilding new steps to the restored barn and to the carriage houseReplacing the shingles on the side wall of the carriage houseReplacing some missing clapboards on the barnCleaning and painting sections of the barn and carriage houseReestablishing plantingsClearing brush and debris from the grounds(We’re very open to suggestions – please let us know your ideas)\n\nAEHS is looking for volunteers to help with these projects. No experience is necessary, but those with carpentry or gardening skills are especially welcome. AEHS will have shingles, clapboards, a couple of ladders, and nails on hand but we won’t have hand tools. It’s a BYOT (Bring Your Own Tools) party.\nAlthough it would be wonderful we realize we won’t be able to get all of these projects done in one day. But we can sure get a good start on some of them.\n\nOne volunteer stepped forward and said they will show up with a small load of gravel, a wheelbarrow, a spade, and other tools needed to dig and lay the gravel pads for the stairs. (AEHS will reimburse him for the gravel)\n\nIf you are interested in volunteering, please comment here, contact AEHS at aehs1775@gmail.com, or call/text Steve Warren at 207-319-3800. When contacting us please let us know if there is a particular project you’d like to work on.We hope to see you on the 26th at the Colburn House State Historic Site!\n \nP.S. Make a day of it – stop by and do some volunteering with us in the morning and spend the afternoon at Fort Western observing Martha Ballard Day. Learn about the different aspects of Ballard’s life, including her work as a midwife, her knowledge of herbs, and her role in the community. (starts at one)\n
