Friends of Fort Halifax Bateau Boat Launch
Next week (Tuesday – July 22nd – 10 am) the Friends of Fort Halifax plan to put the Bateau in the Kennebec River at Fort Halifax Park.
The plan is to launch the boat around 10 am on the north side of the park.
The bateau is a replica of the 1775 bateau used by Benedict Arnold trek up the Kennebec River to try and conquer British Canada.
NewsCenter 6 will be there to cover the event. It will be kind of a low-key event but should be a lot of fun.
All are welcome to come and watch and take a close look at the bateau. We are especially in need of strong swimmers (kidding). the stand at the park will not be ready so we will have to take the bateau back to the garage for a few more weeks.
It should be cool to see it preform in the bay. The section of the river we are launching was call the Great Bay a long time ago. Soldiers and families would skate in that area in the winter from 1755 – 1764. In the winter you can still see ice forming int that area from the Waterville/Winslow bridge.
Again, thanks for all the kind words and encouragement during the build. Micky and Fred did most of the work and a hats off to them and their effort.
If you cannot make if we will make sure to post a lot of pictures.
